Marketing Without the Megaphone – An Indie Author’s Quiet Revolution

Book marketing can feel like a game of who can shout the loudest. But what if quiet, steady connection works better than a megaphone?
I'm at the stage when I'm trying a little of both and seeing what works for me.
As an indie author, I’ve worn many hats—writer, designer, marketer, cheerleader. And truthfully? I’m not naturally loud. But I am persistent. And that’s what I’m leaning into for Wherever You Will Go.
Instead of big-budget ads or flashy gimmicks, I’m focusing on heartfelt blog posts, personal emails, and connecting with readers who love rich, character-led fiction. I’m sharing more of the process—how the story came to be, how I built these characters, and why I care so deeply about this book.
Yes, it’s slower. But it feels more real.
And in a complete reversal of the quiet person I am, I've been persuaded to give TikTok another whirl. I hate showing my face and I hate shouting about what I've done, so I'm approaching TikTok with a loud whisper. If you follow me there, you'll see what I mean @franclarkauthor is my handle. And you have permission to shout about that because I can't :(
So if you’re an indie author too—or a reader who supports them—thank you. You’re part of something that matters: real stories told from the heart and a reduced noise megaphone so you can hear a pulse.
