How Readers Can Make an Author’s Day (And Why Your Review Matters More Than You Think)

I've already shared how indie authors support each other — from newsletter swaps to cheering one another on during launches. This week, I want to focus on something even more important: you, the reader.
Every message you send, every post you share, every time you recommend one of my books to a friend — it all matters more than you know. But there’s one act of kindness that truly transforms an author’s visibility:
Leaving a review.
I know… reviews take a few minutes, and life is busy. But here’s the magic behind them:
⭐ 1. Reviews help other readers choose
We all do it. We read reviews before trying a new book — especially by authors we’ve never heard of. A review doesn’t have to be long or clever. Even a line or two like “I was hooked from the start” or “Loved the characters” can tip the balance for someone else.
⭐ 2. Reviews signal to Amazon that a book is worth showing
This is the big one. More reviews = more visibility. More visibility = a chance to be discovered by readers who’d genuinely love the story.
For indie authors without a marketing team behind us, this is priceless.
⭐ 3. Your words give writers courage
It’s simple, but true. When you spend months (sometimes years!) crafting characters you care about, there’s nothing like hearing that a story touched someone’s heart. Reviews keep writers writing.
How to make this indie author's day!
If you’ve read Wherever You Will Go, may I ask a small favour?
If you enjoyed the journey — Essie’s courage, the Windrush history, the hidden truths — please consider leaving a review on Amazon. Just a sentence makes a world of difference.
I’m trying to build momentum for the book going into the new year, and your support would help more readers discover Essie’s story.

Thank you so much for being here, for reading, and for cheering on indie authors like me. Your support genuinely keeps these stories alive.
