A Busy Season of Books, Covers, and (Hopefully) One Last BBQ

daises on an open book

If I thought August was going to be a quiet month, I was wrong! Somewhere between wrapping up summer, attending book fairs, and putting the finishing touches on my next release, life has become a whirlwind of pages, covers, and summer madness.

Yes, I did it. I made the (slightly mad) decision to publish a book under my pen name, Rosa Temple, on 31st October 2025. The countdown is on! And with it, the never-ending checklist of final edits, tweaks, and last-minute decisions that come with publishing a book.

When You Spot That Typo…

Here’s the thing: my Rosa Temple manuscript has been professionally edited and proofread. Yet, somehow, when I was casually re-reading, my eyes tripped over a tiny typo that had escaped everyone’s notice. Cue a minor heart-stopping moment and a frantic decision to do one more last-minute read-through. Authors everywhere will know that feeling, part horror, part determination, and part “how many cups of coffee do I need for this?”

Covers, Blurbs, and Big Decisions

Meanwhile, the book cover is still being tweaked and I’m polishing up the book blurb. These are the fun-but-nerve-wracking parts of publishing - getting it just right so readers are intrigued enough to dive in.

All this busyness means my draft of Book 2, the follow-up to Wherever You Will Go, is sadly sitting on hold for now. I miss those characters and their world so much. But sometimes, you have to press pause on one project to give another your full attention.

Book Fairs and New Connections

On a brighter note, I recently took part in a local book fair, and it was such a rewarding experience. Not only did I sell a few books, but I also made some wonderful connections with other authors. Being an indie author can sometimes feel like working in a little bubble, so these events remind me how important community is, and how supportive the writing world can be.

Time for Some Unbookish Things

After a week of edits, emails, and event follow-ups, I’m looking forward to a few unbookish activities. I run a choir here in town, and I’ve got some vocal arrangements to record (music is another love of mine). And, fingers crossed, I’ll squeeze in one last BBQ before the UK summer disappears for good. Sunshine, grilled food, and a good book in hand. What more could you want?
